Is it a struggle to get up and moving in the morning?  It definitely is for me.  I have my weekday routine and weekend routine down.  Let me tell, I love my weekend, sleep until 7:30 routine.  My weekday morning routine can always use some tweaking.

Mornings are rough.  I’m by no means a morning person.  I’m the one in the office who you don’t speak to until you see an empty can of cherry coke zero.  I’m not a coffee person. Oh, the horror!!!  I know, who doesn’t drink coffee?  Well… me.  I like it frozen with mocha from Dunkin’ Donuts, and that’s about it when it comes to coffee.  Morning Routine without frozen coffee… or cherry coke zero, or any other form of caffeine?! No thanks, I’ll pass.

So what are my big secrets for getting up and ready in the morning sans coffee?  Prep the night before!!

1. Pick Out Your Clothes the Night Before

Get your clothes laid out and ready to go the night before.  It takes the guesswork when you can’t think or process anything.  I have lost pressure minutes in the morning when I can’t figure out what to wear and keep changing clothes.  Then next thing you know, you look up at the clock and you’re late.  Choosing your clothes and pressing or steaming the night before is a big time saver for me.  Don’t forget to pick out shoes and any jewelry!

2. Take a Shower in the Evening

Taking your shower the night before.  Some people are weird about showers, weird as in odd, not a bad thing.  My parents, for instance, always took a shower when they went to bed and then again in the morning.  I could not for the life of me figure it out.  I like to take my shower in the evenings as it relaxes and helps me unwind for bed.  But I also get to wash away the day, which I also find therapeutic and pretty much hygienic.  Who wants to go to bed dirty? Besides my husband…  Anyone?

I also partially dry my hair before I go to bed.  I have A LOT of hair.  It’s a sponge, absorbs water, and refuses to let it go.  It takes forever to dry it.  It’s also a frizzy mess, so I try products that help, like this one here (#ad).  So part of my morning routine is to straighten it, and that only takes about 10 minutes since it’s already clean and dry in the morning.  This also helps me to not look like I have a mop on my head. Morning Routine, oh how I wish you were afternoon routine.

3. Do Everything You Can the Night Before

No, really.  Every. Single. Thing.  Pack your lunch?  Get it ready the night before.  Do you have your work bag packed?  Get everything ready you possibly can the night before and put it in a location altogether,  This removes the trying to find the random notebook, or your car keys, during your morning scramble.  The goal here is less stress.

4. Make-Up After you Wake-Up!!

Are you a girl who loves makeup?  Me too!!  It’s one of my faults, I love it so much.  I have so many eyeshadow palettes, I probably don’t need to buy any make-up for a few years.  You hear that, hubby?!  I admit it, I have a problem.  This is a problem for my morning routine.  You have to get moisturized, then primed, the foundation, contouring, and highlighting, fill in the brows and complete the look with some dramatic eyes.  Wellll, about that…. keep it simple.

You aren’t going to work for the way you apply your makeup unless you’re a model or a make-up artist, and a lot of other awesome professions out there. I think I missed my calling, but I digress.  I work in corporate America.  They care about me showing up and doing the job they’re paying me for.  That doesn’t mean you can’t look good, that just means to try and keep it simple.  Figure out an everyday look that makes you feel good about yourself, and that you can do pretty quickly.

Just to give you an idea of how I get it together.  I first wash my face and apply moisturizer and eye cream. Then brush my teeth and give the moisturizer some time to absorb.  From there,  I put on some primer, give these a few moments to absorb.  A light amount of foundation, some brow color to fill in some sparse areas, and matte eyeshadow and mascara.

Mascara is my secret weapon.  I love it.  I swear, on the days I don’t wear it, I constantly get asked if I’m sick.

Bright-eyed and Bushy-Tailed

What’s your routine look like?  I know everyone is different and have different needs.  Like me, I need more sleep… don’t we all.  I’m lucky enough to have a husband who stays home with the kids and is going to school full-time.  He’s truly amazing and gets our kiddo’s ready for their days.  We pack their lunches the night before, but in the morning, I actually get Sara time.  The precious me time that only happens between 5:45 and 6:45 am.

To sum it all up, get it together the evening before for an easier morning.  Practice makes perfect, as I’m sitting here at 10:30 pm typing up this post, clothes picked out, and have not yet showered.  Maybe one day I’ll take my own advice, that I’ve proven to myself works.  One day.

Until next time!
